Applying Aristotle's Rhetoric Theory To President Bush's Memorial Address
[ send me this report ]
5 pages in length. As the shaper of truth and reality, the discourse community is constantly at odds with the manner by which rhetoric is approached in contemporary times. Outsiders pay little mind to the value of words, asserting that their presence is merely symbolic in nature and superficial in reality. Like so many who have adopted this way of thinking, these nonmembers of the discourse community possess very little interest for truth, being concerned only with rhetoric persuasion. With a rhetorical epistemology solidly entrenched in their psyche, these naysayers hold firm to their convictions that words are not the connection between concept and knowledge, but rather that obtaining such a possession is not only unwarranted by humans but also impossible. Examining President Bush's recent memorial address at the National Cathedral, one can readily argue that Aristotle's three-point definition of rhetoric was a primary component toward persuasion through words, as well as a solid example of substantiating his own character, credibility, and persona; an emotional state in his audience; and a sense of reasonableness. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Applying Aristotle's Theory Of Rhetoric To Bush's Speech To Congress On September 20, 2001
[ send me this report ]
6 pages in length. President Bush's speech to Congress on September 20, 2001 attempted to quell a terribly distraught country and calm the nerves of those who were at odds with one another. Clearly, the war on terrorism has not represented a significantly popular time in United States history, inasmuch as 911 proved to divide an already agitated homeland. Bush's speech attempted to placate the nation's growing uncertainty as to soundness of entering into war by reassuring the American people how important this decision was to the country's continued global status. While this was, indeed, true, Bush also incorporated a significant amount of manipulative rhetoric as a means by which to fortify his own agenda and ultimately sway public opinion about the threat of terrorism. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Are The Skills That Are Necessary To Become An American President Substantially Different From Those That Are Necessary To Function As President?
[ send me this report ]
7 pages in length. If the skills necessary to become an American president were one and the same with the skills necessary to function as president, the United States would boast some of the most ethical, righteous and humane leaders of the free world. However, being that the requisite skills for each are completely divergent in nature, it is understandable how disillusioned the constituency becomes after a candidate secures office by selling himself with political promises and administrative skill that does not materialize once the president has been elected. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
